Forty artisans from the Labpur Banana Fiber Craft Cluster participated in a five-day packaging training programme focused on new banana fiber non-woven fabrics and crafts. The initiative aimed to strengthen practical skills in professional, sustainable and market-oriented packaging, enabling artisans to enhance the quality and commercial appeal of their products.

The programme was supported by the Indian Micro Enterprises Development Foundation (IMEDF) as the nodal agency, contributing to the development of an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem. By strengthening the capacities of artisans and connecting skill development with market readiness, the initiative supports greater participation of rural communities in emerging enterprise opportunities.

The sessions covered packaging fundamentals, eco-friendly materials, product handling, labeling, branding, quality standards, storage and transportation. Participants received demonstrations and hands-on practice using appropriate packaging materials and tools. Special emphasis was placed on protecting banana fiber non-woven fabrics, bags, home décor items and other handicrafts while improving their presentation for different markets.

The training also introduced participants to branding elements, quality inspection and retail and e-commerce readiness. Through practical exercises, artisans learned to prepare products for exhibitions, retail outlets and online sales.

All 40 participants actively engaged in the programme and reported improved confidence in selecting appropriate packaging materials and applying branding and labeling practices. By strengthening the capabilities of artisans and supporting market-oriented enterprises, the initiative contributes to a more inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem.
